The time has come for a questionnaire

Fri Aug 14, 2009, 2:14 PM
  • Mood: Content
  • Listening to: Metric, Earlimart, quiet little compositions
  • Reading: The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown
  • Watching: nothing.
  • Playing: music.
  • Eating: nothing.
  • Drinking: nothing.
First and foremost, my braces were taken off two days ago! :D I should post pictures very soon.

While I was reading the Michael Jackson article in Vanity Fair, I came across a questionnaire he had completed and immediately wanted to try it for myself. Admittedly, I changed the wording of a few of the questions so that they would apply to a more general audience, and I have added a few of my own. Please feel free to do it yourself, as well; it would please me to see what you can come up with. (:

GOD, WHY DO I ALWAYS WRITE SO MUCH??? You don't have to be so detailed if you do this. xDD

What do you do in your spare time?

I write, scribble thoughts onto small note cards close at hand so that I will not forget my most intimate ideas. I read every genre imaginable, take recommendations from anyone, relish the sound of the words in my head. I listen to music, a constant melody in my ears to accompany my day-to-day activities. I photograph anything and everything of interest; a face, a flower. I sketch. I dream. I express. I surround myself with the earthen beauty of nature. I shop. I stand in the rain and let it hold me in its arms and rejuvenate me. Take everything into consideration; observe. On occasion, I’ll immerse myself in an excellent movie. And when I’m through with all of that, I’ll just think. Think and think and think, with fantasies and wonders interspersed. Or perhaps my habit of thinking coincides with all of the other pastimes I take part in.

Would you like to get married?

Oh, certainly. Of course. I’m willing to wait for that moment, so that it will be all the more extraordinary.

What kind of girl/boy would you like to marry?

Oooh. This is going to be a long one. xD

Someone with whom I can be very intimate, very open. I would consider myself to be an extremely honest person overall, and it would be necessary for my spouse to be the same in order for things to work smoothly. They need to have the ability to make me smile – in a restaurant, on the sofa, on the gloomiest of days when nothing is going as it should. In the same vein, their sense of humor must be warm and inviting; nothing cruel is accepted with me, even if it’s not meant to sound that way. Our conversations would be colored with depth and meaning, and if he were not willing to discuss with me anything that crossed his mind, I do not know how I would feel of him. This man, if I could determine this about him, would be sensual and willingly gentle with physical contact. Of course, I’d want him to touch me: an arm around my shoulder, a squeeze of the hand, an embrace, a luxurious kiss. With me, you must, must, must be natural, your own self and nothing but. I’m the sort of girl who is transfixed by raw beauty. Trust would be an issue, as well as kindness and generosity. Spontaneous surprises for one another, a trip to a favorite location, devotion; that sort of thing. And I should stress that he need not be careful with what he says around me (that is, if it is not a direct insult that is made with spite)! I do not care; I will handle it. I am strong, and am more than content to hear his opinions. Intelligence, I’m sure, would be a key component, as such a quality is highly attractive – but there is no reason for arrogance to stand in the way. Modesty and confidence can live in harmony, and that is what I intend to achieve in finding a husband.

How many children would you like to have?

Somewhere between none and two (I do want children, you must know).

What type of person do you usually dislike?

Presumptuous/haughty, conceited, sarcastic (nothing against those who use sarcasm, I suppose; I just hate it passionately!), unappreciative, dishonest, superficial, manipulative

What would you do if someone gave you a million dollars?

I... I don’t know, exactly. It would depend largely on the moment, and how I was faring at the time. Whatever struck me as logical and deserving of the money.

What do you like best about yourself?

My honesty, desire to write, literacy, intelligence, individuality, an insatiable need to think and observe, infatuation with art and literature, will speak freely provided that I enjoy the company of the person, attuned to nature, swept easily away by romance, affected greatly by those around me, equipped and well-prepared, creative, easily inspired, quiet and therefore unassuming, dreamer, interest in the lives of others, modest, defiant, philosophical, subtle sense of humor

What do you dislike most about yourself?

Social anxiety, fear of the unknown, frequently in distress when uncertain of what to do or say, selfish in some situations, self-conscious, judgmental, paranoia, distrust, dwelling on small details, compulsive, overly-cautious, antisocial, dull, do not relish being the center of attention, contrary, uncertainty, poor self-esteem, intimidation, inferiority, idleness

What is your most prized possession?

My books and my writing. If human beings are included, then yes, my family.

Do you have pet peeves or superstitions?

More than many other things, I highly dislike and even feel threatened when adults (men, if I must be more specific) – or anyone, really – wink at me. And oh my goodness, I find it terribly frustrating when friends of mine do not ask how I am, even after I show interest in what they themselves are doing and hope desperately that they will return the favor. Being watched is another; I cannot concentrate on a task at hand when amid a group of people.

Who are your favorite actors?

Johnny Depp, Alan Rickman, Michael Emerson, Viggo Mortensen, Jim Carrey

Who are your favorite actresses?

Kate Winslet (she deserves her own paragraph :b) - This is the breed of woman I wish to be when I am grown. I regard her more highly than any other actress or, for that matter, any other celebrity, and look upon her with great admiration. My God, she’s a natural. A genuine talent, with genuine beauty. I can say, without a doubt in my mind, that she is a force to be reckoned with. How passionate, how articulate, how bold and true and authentic! I adore her like no other woman. And there is something to be said of her oppositions to Hollywood’s unnecessary glamour and need to “falsify one’s appearance.” For Kate wants nothing of that; no, she will have none of the face lifts and body alterations and it’s just as well, for she’s both highly intelligent and capable of surpassing all odds.

Two others – Helena Bonham-Carter, Meryl Streep

What are your trademark items (fashion)?

My ballet flats – where would I be without their sophisticated, effortless comfort? You slip them on and your ensemble is instantly more polished. That, and jeans and jewelry. As of late I’m smitten with skinnies, and any sort of jewelry complements an outfit and adds a layer of depth, while also emphasizing the collarbone, a beautiful yet understated part of the body.

What is your best feature?

My eyes.

What is your worst feature?

My cheeks or my nose.

Select a few of your favorite desserts.

Hot chocolate, anything butterscotch, brownies, ice cream (vanilla, cookie dough, and chocolate), pudding, cheesecake

Do you have plans for your future career? If so, what?

I would like someday to become a writer/novelist, and if I am not able, then I will turn to editing. It’s well-known that I am very much in love with the field of English and language.

What career would you be unhappy/uncomfortable/dissatisfied with?

Something math, science or technology-related.

Describe your ideal home.

Very light and open, with a palette of blues and greens. Earth tones every which way, paintings of nature and scenery, unique accents of the foreign variety – fans, vases, elements of feng shui, handwoven pillows – and perhaps, if I am so fortunate, small fountains that encourage relaxation. Wood flooring – in fact, I would prefer every surface to be of wood. And then, lest I forget, the plants! When I do, in fact, own a home of my own, I will take particular care in furnishing the space that remains with small elements of the outdoors.

What struggles do you face in everyday life?

It’s true that I am more than timid; spend even a few moments with me, and you will know immediately how severely I have been scarred by social situations. It’s likely that it is something to do with my past; I’ve been looked down upon (or have at least felt this way) on more occasions than I can remember, and for two reasons that I am aware of: my shyness, and my lack of confidence in myself and my appearance. Since then, I’ve bettered myself significantly and am more successful overall in speaking to strangers and authority figures, but even so, I can’t say that I don’t have to try. Part of what I constantly struggle with is anxiety – even, in some cases, astonishing amounts. For example, when I am visiting a doctor’s office for a check-up and am waiting in the waiting room, I feel as though my nervousness is a visible thing, and that everyone about me can see it, too, for inside of me it’s like a raging storm that won’t subside. They really should consider painting their walls green; being a soothing color, it might help to calm patients’ fears, including my own.

How would you describe your fashion sense?

All of the things that I purchase are breathable – slightly bohemian, while still on the formal side – and I dress myself most often in clothing that flows (blouses, for instance), and is open to the elements. This way, I never feel as though I am constricted, but this is not to say that now and then I will not wear lovely pieces such as form-fitting coats/jackets and items of a similar variety. Gravitating largely to lightweight and colorful clothing, my overall style is comfortable while being eclectic and elegant.

What are the small things you take pleasure in?

- I love being read aloud to, which may have something to do with the fact that I often listened to my mother read stories to me when younger. A soothing voice with a steady pace drifts me away like a tide, sends shivers down my spine. Rocking chairs are also significant. My parents once thought me to be a high-functioning autistic (and I very well might be, I don’t know) because of my need for constant motion and repetition, among other things. Even when I’m not sitting down in the rocking chair itself, I will rock back and forth periodically, merely because it sets me at ease. There is also the satisfaction of curling up with a book near to a fireplace; for both the smell and the turning of the pages are a treat for my senses. It’s just the tangibility of it all, the fact that you are holding a great masterpiece, a work of art. While I don’t indulge in them often, baths provide an atmosphere in which to unwind that exceeds all others.

What is something about you that most don’t know?

For one, I have scoliosis, in a very mild case. For another, I’m a great thinker, probably more than I ought to be – it’s a constant activity for me. I’ll think about everything, really, especially people. When I’m around a good amount of people, say, in a public place, I like to watch and see what they do, what they say, how they interact with others and the world itself. Doctors of any sort intimidate me, and though I shouldn’t, I almost immediately take a disliking to them because of their strange ways and forced smiles – unless, of course, they are serious and natural when talking to you. Believe me, I will catch on to whether they are or not very, very quickly. Eye contact itself flusters me when interacting, but I can maintain it well, for the most part, except in the cases of some (and authority figures who make contact with me have my approval).

What is the last song you listened to?

Metric’s “Satellite Mind.” Lately, I’m incredibly fond of Metric, an indie alternative band reigning from Canada. Their songs are so different, so away from the mainstream, and quite catchy, too. The lyrics can be a bit bold, but in the best of ways, and that is what makes them so interesting to listen to.

What are a few of your favorite words?

Porcelain, elixir, breathe, seductive, soliloquy, spirit, labyrinth

Why, hello, dear friends! My name is Lauren, and above all, I am a writer. As well as this, I quite enjoy reading, drawing, listening to music, daydreaming, and photography. I am hopelessly devoted to the color blue, chocolates, reading outdoors, rain, spring, winter, autumn, listening to birds sing through an open window, candles, oriental art, the night, science fiction, pandas, the quiet, and individuality.
